#WATCH | Jammu | BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa says, “This is a very large market—the ‘Shiva market’ near the railway station—and it serves as a significant commercial hub. There are shops selling dry fruits and blankets, as well as eateries and dhabas. It started with a short circuit in one shop, and the fire spread rapidly, engulfing surrounding shops. By the time the fire brigade arrived, the entire market had been consumed by the flames. In my estimation, about 35 to 40 shops have been completely gutted. We won’t be able to assess the full extent of the damage until the situation is completely brought under control. The shopkeepers are cooperating fully with the administration; the Deputy Commissioner (DC) is present here, as is the Superintendent of Police (SP) South, along with the DSP, the SHO, and their entire team. Members of civil society are also here, providing assistance. Since this unfortunate incident has occurred, we will discuss compensation with the administration later, but the damage is on a massive scale…”

#WATCH | Jammu | A shopkeeper says, “…The entire market has been reduced to ashes. At least twenty-five to thirty shops are a total loss—a complete, total loss…We pray to God to grant everyone the strength to cope with this—the loss is immense, a total loss. I also urge the administration to step in as quickly as possible and ensure that compensation is provided without delay…”

You can see the fire emergency services, the SDRF, and the district police on-site. There are more than twenty fire engines deployed, along with additional water tankers provided by the GMC. Our primary objective is to extinguish the fire as quickly as possible; we have already managed to bring about 95 percent of the blaze under control.
